Tejas Vijh moved to the US in 2022 to grow his career in venture capital. After completing his bachelor’s in computer science in India, he pursued a master’s in business analytics at Columbia University. Despite facing visa sponsorship challenges, he was determined to work in healthcare or climate tech.

Using PitchBook, a venture capital database, he compiled a list of 2,000 firms and sent 500 personalized cold emails. By his 200th email, he started receiving interviews, and by his 500th, he had two offers. One was from a larger firm that couldn’t sponsor his H-1B visa, and the other was from his current firm, where the managing partner understood his visa needs.

Choosing a small company over a Big Tech firm, he found greater job security and support in exploring alternative visas like the O-1 or EB-1. Recent changes in H-1B policies and support from figures like Elon Musk have given him hope for a stable future in the US.
