Notre Dame Names Pat Garrity General Manager for Mens and Womens Basketball Teams

Notre Dame has appointed former standout player Pat Garrity as the general manager of both its men’s and women’s basketball teams. Garrity, a Notre Dame alum who played for the university from 1994 to 1998, was a prominent player, averaging 18.8 points and seven rebounds per game. He was named the Big East Player of the Year in 1997.

After his college career, Garrity was selected 19th overall in the 1998 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. Though he never played for the Bucks, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks and then to the Phoenix Suns, where he spent his rookie season. He was subsequently traded to the Orlando Magic, where he played for the remainder of his 10-year NBA career, averaging 7.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Post-retirement, Garrity transitioned into an executive role, serving as the assistant general manager for the Detroit Pistons before departing in 2020. In his new role at Notre Dame, Garrity expressed his excitement, calling the university his “second home.”

Garrity inherits two distinct challenges. The women’s team, which finished 28-6 last season and reached the Sweet 16, is poised for continued success with key player Hannah Hidalgo. Conversely, the men’s team, which finished 15-18 and ninth in the ACC, will require significant improvements to return to prominence.
