Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James faces a significant decision this offseason as he contemplates whether to return for another NBA season at age 40. Even his long-time agent, Rich Paul, is uncertain about James’ plans. During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Paul stated, “I have no idea. Zero.”
Paul explained that the decision-making process with James typically involves evaluating his feelings and overall situation before James makes up his mind. James has a $52 million player option for the 2025-26 season; opting in would keep him with the Lakers, while opting out would make him a free agent.
Paul declined to speculate on James’ future with the Lakers, emphasizing that it’s early in the offseason and James is recovering from a knee injury. He noted that he always assumes James will continue playing and believes James could physically play for a couple more years.
Despite his age, James performed at a high level last season, averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game. However, with James turning 41 at the start of the next season and having achieved nearly every accolade in the sport, the end of his career may be nearing. Yet, his performance last season indicates he still has much to offer if he chooses to continue.
